About Al Sihah
Daughters of the Nile is a benevolent international fraternal organization for women who are related by birth or marriage to Shriners, Master Masons or to a member of the Daughters of the Nile. It boasts 150 constituted Temples throughout the United States and Canada with over 54,000 members.
We are most grateful to the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine for allowing us to assist with the patients at the 22 Shrine Hospitals for Children in North America, Hawaii and Mexico. Each year, through our Supreme temple Convalescent Endowment Fund (CEF) and Convalescent Relief Fund (CRF), Daughters of the Nile contribute well over a million and a half dollars to the hospitals for prostheses, orthotics, braces, shoes, etc. for the children. In addition, many Temples sew garments, quilts, provide toys and hold parties for the children as well as log many volunteer hours in the hospitals. In reality, over two million dollars is contributed to the hospitals by Daughters of the Nile each year. To date, Daughters of the Nile have contributed almost $30,000,000.00 for the children.
Al Sihah Temple No. 29, Daughters of the Nile was formed in 1925 and chartered on March 26, 1926. At that time it was agreed that our Temple should be called Al Sihah which means "purity".
Since that time Al Sihah has grown and prospered under the leadership of many very capable Queens and dedication of the Ladies of the Household. Our pride and strength is achieved by having enthusiastic and hard-working members. Membership is gained by being proposed for the same and we welcome questions and interest in our organization. We join hands with all who care about the future - our children.
Al Sihah Temple No. 29 meets at Ainad Shrine Center on the second Tuesday of every month at 1:00 pm with the exception of June when we meet on the fourth Tuesday and July and August when the Temple is dark. Sewing is held each Tuesday at 9:30 of session months with the exception of the second Tuesday. While we sew the garments requested by the St. Louis Unit of the Shriners Hospitals, there are also ladies sewing on quilts. Al Sihah gives two quilts each year to the St. Louis Unit. Some of the ladies work on various craft items and the proceeds go to provide items for the St. Louis Unit. Daughters of the Nile and Al Sihah in particular, stand tall and strong in our efforts to make a difference.
